The Seven Last Words: Behold each other

Steve · April 6, 2020 · 2 Comments

The Seven Last Words, Day 3: Today, Jesus gives us a vivid lesson on the importance of caring for each other in difficult times, something that feels all too real in times like these.

“Woman, behold your son. Behold your mother.” John 19:25-27

The Seven Last Words: Father, forgive them

Steve · April 4, 2020 · 6 Comments

I was supposed to be giving a lenten retreat this weekend but the world got in the way. So I’m doing this instead…find a quiet place.

The Seven Last Words: Today, as Christians around the world prepare to enter into Holy Week, I am beginning a seven-day series of short video reflections on the last words of Jesus from the cross. We believe these words from the cross continue to speak to us and resound in us today, teaching us how to forgive, to assure, to take care of others, to cry out in times of need, to be fully human, and to embrace our own lives and deaths more completely in God. Today, we begin with forgiveness.

“Father, forgive them…” Luke 23:33-34

[If you’d prefer to read along or instead of viewing, you can read my reflection here.]
