Caravelli Cooper Givens

Caravelli Cooper Givens (CCG) is songwriting and performing trio that performs intimate concerts of secular and sacred music as well as music for prayer services and retreats. The trio consists of John Caravelli on guitar and background vocals; Phil Cooper on keyboard and background vocals; and Steve Givens on lead vocals and guitar. The trio’s music is strong on storytelling and cinematic imagery and influenced by a wide variety of musical styles, including Americana, folk-rock, musical theatre and various forms of classical and contemporary sacred music.

Highly ecumenical and multifaceted in its approach to faith and storytelling, the trio have written and performed together for several decades as members of two St. Louis-based bands — the contemporary Christian band Nathanael’s Creed and the Americana-roots band The Mo Bottom Project. John Caravelli is a retired banking executive who serves as a liturgical musician at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Florissant, Mo.; Phil Cooper is a financial and business executive who is active on the worship team at Salem United Methodist Church in St. Louis; and Steve Givens is an author and retreat and spiritual director who often integrates music and the creative process into his programs.

Here are a few music videos of their most popular songs:

Caravelli-Givens is a songwriting and Americana music duo that performs at community gatherings and soup kitchens, as well as in living rooms and on front porches. As two of the songwriters for the St. Louis-based Americana-roots band MO Bottom Project, John Caravelli and Steve Givens capture in words and music the landscape and stories of urban and suburban life as well as the farmlands of the Mississippi and Missouri River valleys.

In addition to their original music, they cover the music of the songwriters who inspire them, including John Prine, Steve Goodman, Jason Isbell, Bob Dylan, Mary Chapin Carpenter, as well as the more traditional Americana songbook standards of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and many others.
